Ever felt that you thought you
were called to do something but when you started to think it over, your mind
realized that you were ill-equipped for the calling? Don’t worry. This seems to
be a common experience among believers. But do know that you have been equipped from the day you believed in God.
//Romans 8:9-11
The Holy Spirit indwells our
beings. He is God within us. Yes, I
said “He”. There is some misconception that the Holy Spirit is an “it” or some
kind of force. I don’t know about you, but a force doesn’t usually have
feelings, know things, and reveals things to people. So, in the Word of God the
Holy Spirit is portrayed as expressing love (Romans 15:30) and is one who
determines spiritual gifts in believers (1 Corinthians 12:7-11). These are just
a few characteristics of the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit is God himself.
Jesus explained in John 14: 16 and 26 that a Helper was coming after Him to
aid, teach, and assure us as the body of Christ. When it comes to feeling equipped we think that someone else is usually
a better candidate for the job than we are. We may believe that the time
isn’t right since we have read through the entire Bible just yet, or that we haven’t
really earned our spot for the calling.
//
Let me tell you that this is the
mindset that the devil wants you to have. The devil is so clever when it comes
to words and he wants you to believe in those lies he tells you about not being
equipped for the job. Just as the Bible
indicates, you ARE equipped for the job the moment you put your trust and
belief in Jesus Christ. The Bible tells us that we will become a new creature
when we accept Christ as our Savior and with that, comes the Holy Spirit
dwelling in us (John 3: 3-8). The Spirit intercedes for us, reveals spiritual
gifts to us, teaches us, and guides us. The Spirit is not going to guide us into
thinking we are not equipped for God’s plan or for what God has called us to
do. As He dwells within us, we are equipped to do the Will of God already. That
is His job; to equip us, the believer, so we can model Jesus to the world
whether it be by our actions, thoughts, or deeds. We are equipped because of
our belief in Christ who has given us the Spirit, our Helper, to do His will in
all aspects of life.
//
So, when you begin to think that
you are not equipped to do what God has called you to, say what God has called
you to say, or act in the way that God has called you to act then you are
believing the devil’s lies and giving him power to control your life. You are giving him power to consider you
less than what you are in Christ. You are giving him power to not bring God
glory. Let’s give God the power to rule our hearts and allow the Spirit to fill
us up so that we are can extinguish what the devil speaks. I encourage you to
read over who the Holy Spirit is, what he entails, and what he offers us as
believers. Dig deeper and grow your knowledge of God and all He has to offer
us. You ARE equipped. God says so. Believe it!
Believe it. Dig into it. Apply it.
